Become Gala Royalty
To be eligible to apply to be Gala Royalty you need to:
- Live in the Oughtibridge postal district or attend either Oughtibridge, Wharncliffe Side or Bradfield Dungworth Primary School
- Be in Year 5 or 6
- Be happy to speak into a microphone to open Gala Day with a short speech
- Help with the raffle draw and presenting competition prizes.
- Be available on the following dates and times :
Wednesday 18th March 2026, 7:00pm for the royalty selection event
Wed 17th June 2026, 6:00pm - 8:00pm for Sports Night and Chase
Sat 27th June 2026, 12:00am - 5:30pm for Oughtibridge Gala day
October 2026 (Date, time and venue tbc) for the Oughtibridge Gala donations evening
What happens next?
In the coming weeks after applications close we will invite all applicants to a royalty selection event
At the selection event we would like you to stand up and answer one of these 3 questions:
• What attraction do you head to first on Gala Day?
• What is your favourite Gala memory?
• What part of the Gala Royalty role would you look forward to most?
You will also be asked to read out this opening speech:
‘Thank you for coming along to this year’s Gala. I hope you have a wonderful day. I am pleased to declare the gala open.’
Our panel simply want to see if you can speak clearly and confidently in public.
The panel will be three people who have no personal connection with any of the applicants.
Every applicant that passes the public speaking test will have their name put in to a hat and the Royalty and attendants will then be drawn at random.
After the draw has taken place a photograph of the Gala Royalty will be taken for the Gala Day programme.
Parent/Guardian terms and conditions
By submitting this application, the parent/guardian of the royalty applicant accepts the following terms and conditions -

As parent or carer, you agree to accompany you at all times, or send a responsible adult to accompany you

As parent or carer, you agree to providing an outfit suitable for a royalty for Gala Day

As parent or carer, you agree to photograph of the applicant being taken and used for future Gala Publicity

As parent or carer, you agree to your child leading the Gala parade through Oughtibridge into Coronation Park.
